In March I gave a presentation to members of the Professional Charter Association about how to make the most out of their social media.

Whilst presenting doesn’t come naturally to me (does it to anyone?) The audience was a friendly bunch, asking lots of great questions. This made it easier for me!

It was strange not to be talking 100% about advertising on social media – as that is my forte. But in a mixed group, it’s great to go back to basics and remind or show the attendees some top tips on making the most out of their social media channels.

Making the most out of your social media

Whilst I can’t share the whole presentation with you. Here are some of the top tips I shared during the presentation.

  • There are more social media channels out there than you realise, so knowing who your ideal client is and where they ‘hang out’ on social media is key.
  • You may have more than one audience and each may prefer different channels.
  • Once you know this, you can focus on the 1,2,3 channels that are important to you. Leave the other channels to other people and organisations whose clients favour them.
  • If Facebook is one of your chosen Social Media platforms, don’t forget that less than 10% of your audience will see your posts organically. Unless of course they visit your home page.
  • Always have more than one admin on your page
  • Remove anyone with access to your page that you no longer have dealings with
  • Ensure everyone with access has 2-factor authentication

Who are the Professional Charter Association?

The Professional Charter Association or PCA are a UK-based independent voice of the boat charter industry. They have members across the UK and a few abroad. Members all have to follow marine codes of practice so that charter guests know they are in safe hands.
