During my time working at Sunsail in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, I used to look after guests that had special requirements.
In the main, this would be pre-organising kayaks to go onboard their boats or helping to organise a wedding. On a Friday it was hunting down suitcases that had been left in Antigua as the island hopper was overloaded.
As well as the couples and families that arrived from all over the world to enjoy amazing sailing. We also used to welcome more recognisable faces on the docks.
In 2013, we were preparing for the arrival of a Royal visitor. Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark was visiting the BVI a visit for a sailing holiday. For the week’s preceding his visit, I worked with his Security team in Denmark. I suggested and then arranged a suitable itinerary that would cater to his specific requirements.
Upon arrival at the base, I worked with his team on to make sure everything was clear. Ensuring that the trip would go without a hitch. Before setting off on his sailing adventure Prince Henrik invited me on board his catamaran. He wanted to talk about the plans we had in place for his trip. Whilst we were talking, he offered me a cup of tea, which he proceeded to make himself. He was a lovely gentleman sadly no longer with us.
